Distractions from the Internets

A few cool internet treats I’ve run into this last week:

Poladroid project for those who miss that old polaroid feel. It only works with Mac OSX right now and since I don’t have OSX would someone try this out and let me know how cool it obviously is? You can even shake it! I found this nifty little internets treat from veronicabelmont.com

In2ition is a web series about a girl, with special abilities, who is on the run from a “company” who supposedly takes care of people with special abilities. It would be a bit of a web to go through how I ran into this but it boils down to ijustine.com

Streetsy is a photoblog for those who enjoy looking at the arts in all its mediums courtesy of my main art man Law’s twitter: http://twitter.com/thelaw

and also courtesy of http://twitter.com/thelaw, 1000 Tiny Things I Hate. A list of many things that Jon Brown dislikes (hate is such a strong word). He’s only on #0135 right now and I’ve only looked into the 4 or 5 most current things that Sir Jon Brown dislikes but they are quite funny things. Especially #0134: Nerd Rage.

Now go. Enjoy. I know you are not working.

Yelp

What a funny name. It sounds like something bad is about to happen. Like “Zoinks!” “Gadzooks!” “Yelp!” Iono. Maybe it’s just me. In any case there is nothing bad about yelp.com. Unless you’re saying it’s badass! Which it is. It’s basically an online community of reviewers. You can review any business with a physical address. I like it mainly for it’s restaurant reviews. I have found much good food on yelp.com and today I decided to contribute by doing my first review.

Navigating through yelp.com is pretty easy and writing your own review can be done very quickly too. Most importantly it combines my enjoyment of writing with my love of food.

So yeah. Go to yelp.com and check it out. Leave a review if you feel up to it.

Fitness Log, Finally

I’ve been wanting to add a page for my fitness log for a long time. I have had a fitness log for years but I wanted to get it online to keep for record and progress purposes. It mainly lists out what I did on any given day but there are some charts there too. I like the charts because it’s easy to see my progress on any given routine that I may be doing for the month. However, it is a pain in the ass to get tables to look right on wordpress.

I eventually just got a tables plug-in (WP-Table) for wordpress done by Alex Rabe. It’s really simple to use but it also limits a few things I could do with tables manually by myself. Oh well, it saved me a whole mess of time.

And yet it still took me a few hours to set the whole thing up. Which means I need to get something to eat ‘cuz I haven’t eaten since about 10:30a. Now… what will I eat. Actually, I guess the real question is: what is there to eat? hmmmm.

Bartering for Business

Crazy! A company that deals with the trade of goods of services!

Now, I don’t know if this is a bum website that is up for the sole purpose of stealing my password or downloading a virus onto my computer but I had to check it out. Before anyone checks out the website though keep a few things in mind: 1. it is not hard for someone to spoof of make up a website so that they can put malware, spyware, or even viruses onto your computer, 2. the comment that was left on my post on Nov. 1 doesn’t make sense to me (I appreciate the comment but I don’t think my post sounded thoughtful or important) but it may just be a company trying to get people to visit their site.

That being said I must reiterate that I LOVE this idea!

Southern California Barter (scmbonline.com) is bartering goods and services for companies to help them grow their business! What a brilliant idea! With the current economic situation and even worse economic horrors looming on the horizon, I think it’s pure genius to set up a way for companies to maintain themselves and possibly even strive by using the oldest form of trade known to human kind! Plus they are a part of NATE (heh heh, National Association of Trade Exchanges)! This looks like a very new company since their site has not been evaluated much by google or mcafee and their product list looks like it was updated today. (Wow, look at their product list. There are tons of things you can exchange!) However, this is something I am going to definitely keep an eye on as the idea seems simply genius!

Check them out (but remember surf the web with caution)!

I am NOT your Whipping Boy

This is not the time to be trying to raise your voice at me.
This is not the time to get upset with me.
This is not the time to tell me about your problems.
This is not the time to tell me you feel wronged and cheated.
This is certainly not the time to tell me how bad things are for you.
And this is certainly not the time to blame me for not being able to rectify all of your problems.

I am the wrong person to be trying to take your frustrations out on.

I am tired of listening to people tell me how awful things are in their lives and yet are not willing to do the things necessary to change it. There are people suffering from life threatening issues and yet some of us feel that our lives are so terrible that it warrants complaining so damn much all the time. There is no need to go into a phase of depression and self loathing. Take some bloody responsibility for the position you’re in in your own life! And for crying out loud stop blaming everyone and everything that could have played a minuscule role in your oh so tormented life.

Now I am NOT saying you should stop complaining. I complain all the time. Heck, I’m complaining right now. It helps relieve stress and let go of frustrations. However, believe in yourself enough to know that you can do something about your situation. Give yourself some credit and understand that nothing is beyond your reach of rectifying. And for crying out loud have enough pride in yourself to know that regardless of who or what put you in your abysmal situation that you can get yourself out of it.

Now, if you don’t have enough faith in yourself to take responsibility for your position in life than I have a few suggestions for you: (1) go to www.projectmichelle.com and leave a comment on her blog telling her your problems. She can’t get out much these days so I’m sure she’d like to read about your depressing life issues. (2) If you are in the SF Bay Area check out a Winter Charity Ball “A Cause to Remember”. (3) send a holiday card to Children International, 2000 East Red Bridge Road, P.O. Box 219055, Kansas City, MO 64121 and let them know that you’d love to help but you can’t afford $22 a month because your life is far more worse than the starving children in poverty stricken countries.

I get it. A lot of us are going through shitty times. But we are smart enough and strong enough to get through it and become better off. Have faith in yourself.
